Walking for breast cancer

The Eluthandweni Maternity Clinic in Vosloorus, Gauteng, held their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon in October, and several of our AfroCentric Colleagues put in the hard miles to show their support.

This year’s event was the eighth walkathon sponsored by the AfroCentric Group since our partnership with Eluthandweni Maternity Health Services began in in 2015.

Though the event was initially started to raise cancer awareness around the Kathorus (Vosloorus and Kathlehong) community and surrounding areas, Eluthandweni also offered various other health screenings on the day of the event:

A pink truck from Pink Drive was also on the grounds with experienced staff available to conduct health talks around breast cancer and to do breast cancer screenings.

AfroCentric and Eluthandweni

AfroCentric was the main sponsor for the construction of the Eluthandweni Maternity Clinic building in 2015. We also bought two vehicles and converted them into ambulances for the clinic.

Since 2018 the Group has sponsored the clinic’s annual Pregnancy Awareness and Breast Cancer Awareness days, as well as International Nurse’s Day in 2022.

To date, AfroCentric Group has invested R3 million in the clinic through our CSI budget and an additional R6,1 million from our Enterprise Development Programme.

Eluthandweni’s vision is to promote and maintain the well-being of mothers and children in the Kathorus community and surrounding areas. It started as a birthing clinic but is now a fully equipped and functional clinic, operating 24 hours, seven days a week.
