In our previous edition we asked for your thoughts about AfroScenes, and I’m pleased to report that your sentiments were very positive. From your answers we can see that our mix of content is hitting the mark, and that you particularly enjoy the business updates, knowledge centre and wellness articles as well as celebrating each other in the Our People section.
You also expressed a desire for more articles on achieving a work/life balance, more information about spotting fraud, industry-related news both here and internationally, and more of the fun stuff. We’ve taken note and will be incorporating your suggestions in future editions.
In June we celebrate Youth Month, focusing on our young people and the importance of the youth as the architects of our future. To this end, we are proud to have sponsored the Young Achiever Award at the BHF Conference in May. Additionally, in our commitment to youth empowerment, we are a Health category sponsor in the Mail & Guardian’s Young 200 Awards for 2025, which were held on 26 June. The Young 200 Awards are an annual recognition event celebrating the achievements of young South Africans across various fields. These awards highlight the contributions of individuals under the age of 35 who are making significant impacts in their respective domains, showcasing the potential and talent within the country. The youth, with their boundless energy and bright ideas are the essential cornerstone for solving our socio-economic challenges and building a resilient economy. We see their potential to innovate and lead as fundamental to progress. This belief in their power is why we are a proud sponsor of the M&G Young 200 Awards – actively supporting the next generation of innovative changemakers.
We have also nominated some of our colleagues for these awards. These young trailblazers are Shaaakirah Aboo, Acting Senior Manager: Client Operations at Medscheme; Dr Tumi Mahlangu, Dental Advisor at DENIS; Chanwyn Williams, Senior Manager: Integrated Data Science at Medscheme as well as Joyce Mateza, Forensic Analyst at Medscheme.
By nominating our trailblazers into the M&G’s Young 200 Awards we’re not acknowledging the future of South Africa but also fostering innovation, creativity, and passion. The nominations underscore the company’s commitment to nurturing young talent and acknowledges the importance of continuously recognising and rewarding excellence.
Speaking of youth, we also have a quiz in our Fun Stuff section that promises a trip down memory lane, so be sure to tell us more about your childhood – your best memories and most cringeworthy moments!
