Our commitment to curbing fraud
Medscheme and AfroCentric attended the Industry Signing Ceremony at the Council for Medical Schemes, showing our commitment to participating in the journey towards curbing fraud, waste and abuse in the healthcare industry.
The Industry FWA Charter, Code of Good Practice (CoGP) and Tribunal Rules were signed by industry stakeholders on 24 November to signify International Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA) awareness month.
Signatories included medical schemes, regulatory bodies, administrators, the Department of Health and representatives of medical aid members. The signing of these documents is celebrated, following a process initiated in March 2019, demonstrating the commitment of all stakeholders to stand up in the fight against FWA.

The CoGP will govern the conduct of various stakeholders in dealing with matters of FWA and disarms arguments attacking procedural fairness to avoid dealing with merits. The CoGP strives to remain consistent with the prescripts of the Constitution and laws applicable to lawful prevention, detection, investigation, sanctions or restitution in cases of FWA.
Everyone has a role to play in preventing fraud. Together, we can fight for what’s right! Help your medical aid scheme protect its finances and its members from harm.
