For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the South African Medical Association (SAMA) conference was held in person in February this year. Our own Dr Mori Boshomane was in attendance.
The overarching theme for this year’s SAMA conference, which took place from 15-17 February in Sandton, Johannesburg, was Strengthening Health Systems.
Topics ranged from keynote panel discussions on strengthening health systems to talks on topics such as real-world evidence, funding healthcare innovations, communicable and non-communicable diseases, ethics and advocacy, and the decriminalisation of the medical profession.
Joining Dr Boshomane at the conference were various international and local experts, including Dr Imtiaz Sooliman from Gift of the Givers, and GEMS’ own Chief Healthcare Officer, Dr Vuyo Gqola.
The conference provided a great opportunity to network and learn from various stakeholders involved in strengthening health systems in the state, private and non-governmental organisation (NGO) sectors.
