{"id":2898,"date":"2023-03-02T11:23:24","date_gmt":"2023-03-02T09:23:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmediacreative.co.za\/afrocentric\/?p=2898"},"modified":"2023-03-14T13:14:38","modified_gmt":"2023-03-14T11:14:38","slug":"celebrating-independence-in-namibia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmediacreative.co.za\/afrocentric\/archives\/2898","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating independence in Namibia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>We wish all our Namibian colleagues a wonderful day on Namibia\u2019s Independence Day, 21&nbsp;March.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Independence Day marks the day when Namibia gained its independence from South African rule in 1990 \u2013 a milestone celebrated with much enthusiasm and pride by the Namibian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Namibia\u2019s journey to independence was a long and difficult one, as the country had been under colonial rule since the late 19th&nbsp;century. Namibia finally achieved independence through diplomatic efforts, negotiations and international pressure on the apartheid regime in South Africa. The country held its first democratic elections in 1989, which resulted in SWAPO\u2019s victory, and Namibia officially gained its independence on 21&nbsp;March 1990.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, Namibia celebrates its Independence Day with events including parades, cultural performances and speeches by political leaders.
