Every year on 27 April, South Africans unite across the country to celebrate Freedom Day. It is a day on which we commemorate the first post-apartheid elections held in 1994, and the day on which our constitution was introduced.
The first democratic elections were the culmination of years of struggle and a negotiated settlement which led to the unbanning of liberation organisations, the release of political prisoners, and the return of exiles.
Later this month, as we celebrate the birth of our diverse Rainbow Nation, we also celebrate our unique country.
We’d like to know how you celebrated Freedom Day. Send a photo of yourself celebrating the day to afroscenes@afrocentrichealth.com.
