Honouring AfroCentric’s women

International Women’s Day was celebrated across the world on 8 March, highlighting the women’s rights movement and shining a spotlight on issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

In the healthcare industry in particular, women make up the majority of our sector, from nurses and doctors to paramedics, community health workers, administrators and scientists.

This year International Women’s Day is themed #InspireInclusion, and the AfroCentric Group is committed to promoting equality and inclusion of women in the workplace as we remain focused on our gender-empowerment transformation agenda.

Looking ahead to South African Women’s Day on 9 August – when we commemorate the march of 20 000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950, which extended pass laws to black women – we encourage you to show appreciation for the women in your life. Let us know which woman in your life or in our business inspires you and why.

You can send your submissions to afroscenes@afrocentrichealth.com to be featured in the Q3 September edition of AfroScenes.

In the meantime, let’s take our hats off to the women of Africa, whose generosity of spirit and strength of character is at the heart of our continent.
