Celebrating independence in Namibia

We wish all our Namibian colleagues a wonderful day on Namibia’s Independence Day, 21 March.

Independence Day marks the day when Namibia gained its independence from South African rule in 1990 – a milestone celebrated with much enthusiasm and pride by the Namibian people.

Namibia’s journey to independence was a long and difficult one, as the country had been under colonial rule since the late 19th century. Namibia finally achieved independence through diplomatic efforts, negotiations and international pressure on the apartheid regime in South Africa. The country held its first democratic elections in 1989, which resulted in SWAPO’s victory, and Namibia officially gained its independence on 21 March 1990.

Today, Namibia celebrates its Independence Day with events including parades, cultural performances and speeches by political leaders. It’s also an opportunity for Namibians to reflect on their country’s progress since independence and to recommit themselves to building a better future for all Namibians.

This momentous occasion serves as a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices the Namibian people made to achieve their independence and the continued efforts needed to build a prosperous and united nation.
